Secondly, from The Little Experience, an adorable 'stitch-it' craft kit that makes one chick by sewing it together. This kit contains
metal needle
brown & yellow floss
printed cotton body piece
felt pieces
felt keyring loop piece
keyring
stuffing
(no scissors needed)
We think the great thing about this kit is that is not only is an activity, there is a product to show, to give, or just to admire when one is done. Adorable (and, available in other styles and kits).
Think SPRING, and use a bit of imagination when you need travel, rainy day, a gift item, or just an arts & crafts activity for home.
Each Kit comes made out of renewable woods, a paint set, and open-ended painting possibilities. We suggest the puzzle for travel, as it's small enough to pack for any trip. Save the paints in the checked baggage for a fun, creativity inspiring craft activity at the destination.
Check out our website for these sets as well as other Environmentally friendly items from ImagiPLAY, as these sets offer play on many levels, and Stegosaurus is 1/3 off at only $9.99 (while limited supplies last)!
Another line of products that sticks out in my mind from the NY Toy Fair, is a craft kit company called The Little Experience. They have just arrived at KidsTravelHappy.com, and we feel they will be very popular.
Here are a few things that we really like:
The kits are complete, meaning, buy a kit, and you won't need anything else to assemble it. For example, if scissors are needed, they are included.
There are many different levels of kits, from kits for the the 3-8 year olds, to kits for those 8-12, and some in between.
There are things to stitch, glue, create, and knit.
They are great for girls and boys.
The packaging is irresistibly cute, economically priced, and recyclable.
When the project is completed, there's a new friend to take along.
Most importantly, for our site, they are perfect to take along! They are also perfect for a rainy day, to give as a gift, or for homeschooling families.
Here are a few of the kits (click on the image or kit name for more details and pricing)
Next time you pack up your kids for a trip, why not equip them with 'doodle' activities. They allow for guided creativity, and plenty of open-ended fun!
We think we have found some of the best ones out there. Here they are in brief:
Doodles to Go: Oodles of Step-by-Step Doodles ($12.95)
Doodles at Dinner (or at Lunch): 36-tear off placemats to doodle on, bound on a cardboard pad, making them just as good for back seats or on kid's lap ($10.99)
Living in Maine, I DO love winter, but I also love cuddling up with a warm cup of tea (or coffee, depending on time of day!), and my knitting. I enjoy knitting in the car, on a plane (needles are no longer 'banned'), with friends, watching a movie, sitting with the kids on the couch, or just about anywhere. Occasionally, I even get to hang out with my mom (who taught me to knit many years ago), and chat about life, kids, etc.
Knitting is extremely portable, and I find it's always good for a conversation starter as well. Other knitters (myself included) can't help but inquire about what someone else is knitting, who it may be for (rarely for the knitter her/himself!), type of yarn, and more... every stitch has a story.
At KidsTravelHappy.com we like to offer crafts that promote creativity, stimulate the mind, work on hand-eye coordination, teach reading of patterns, and are a fun way to pass the time at home or on-the-go. Let's not forget that in the end (best of all!) you'll have something to show (give, share...) when it's completed.
Our top suggestions are the following
My Chunky & Funky Scarf Kitfrom Alex Toys (pictured top on left): Includes the 'chunky' yarn, needles and easy instructions. Save the box and you'll be ready to take your project anywhere.
Schylling Toy's Potholder Loom & Loop Kit: everything you need to make potholders (or drink coasters, or wall hangings...), a metal loom, and plenty of loops (150 of them!) to make the miles go by quickly Classic French Knitting Flower from International Playthings: the perfect introduction to 'knitting' for those not quite ready for the Scarf Kit. Comes with a kid-safe needle, a variety of yarn colors and ONE knitting flower
Boys will enjoy theses as much as girls, no need to lump these activities into any gender stereotype! It's easy to be 'crafty'!
